Random things to do at the 2019 Adelaide Show

Random things to do at the Adelaide Show

Rooftop tour. Take a rooftop tour of the Royal Adelaide Show, check out the beehives and solar panels (go Adelaide Show!) and take in the birds-eye view of the show. It’s on a first come basis and capped at 20 people. Daily from 11am – 4pm on the hour. It takes approx. 30-40 minutes.

Fun fact. The solar panels on the roof cover 12,000 square metres and generate 14,000 mega-watt-hours of solar electricity each year - the equivalent of powering 250 South Australian homes. This saves around 1,400 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year.

Pig racing and diving. These brave little piggies race around a track with their brightly coloured sashes flowing behind and dive (up to 4 metres!).

Cellar door experience. Olive oil, wine, beer and cider tasting and education sessions are run in the Taste SA Pavilion. All local South Australian grown and produced.

Got milk. Learn how a licensed dairy operates with a visit to the Exhibition Milking Dairy! Oh and if you’re at the show on the 5th of September you can catch the Celebrity MilkOff. Six teams made up of Adelaide’s celebrities and media personalities compete against each other in a relay-style hand-milking challenge. Always a good laugh.

Game of thrones feels. Well kinda. At the show you can see some of the country’s finest craftsmen compete in the State Blacksmiths Championship. Gendry will not be there.

Free gin tastings. The small distillery on Kangaroo Island will be offering gin, vodka and liqueur tastings in the Goyder Pavillion. Sign us up.

It’s the Skymaster Wheels 50th Anniversary. 2019 marks the 50 year anniversary of the Skymaster Wheel at the Royal Adelaide Show. Riders have been lifted 35 metres into the air and memories created for generations of South Australians since 1969!

To celebrate 50 years of the Skymaster Wheel, the Royal Adelaide Show is running a selfie competition. Take a selfie on the Skymaster Wheel and upload the photo to Facebook/Instagram, using the hashtag #FW50th, for the chance to see your face on the Skymaster Wheel big screen during the Show. You’ll also go into the draw to win a Wallis cinema gold pass - valued at $1820

Win a year’s supply of Golden North ice cream. 5 participants will be selected every day to compete for the daily prize of a $50 Golden North Ice Cream voucher by being the first to finish eating a 1 litre tub of Golden North Vanilla Ice Cream. And if that’s not yummy enough the overall winner (fastest participant) across the 10 days of the Royal Adelaide Show will win a year’s supply of Golden North Ice Cream valued at over $500.

The Royal Adelaide Show  is on from 30 August - 8 September at the Royal Adelaide Showgrounds.
